You won’t believe how easy it is to make these DIY painted Decorative Wine Bottles. Empty a few bottles of wine, and save the empty bottles for a fun upcyled craft. Make the perfect wine bottle vase for a simple centerpiece.
First things first: you need empty wine bottles for this craft. Now, I’m not going to tell you how you should empty them, but you will need a few clean and empty wine bottles. Speaking of wine, this would be a fantastic craft project for a craft and wine party!
You could easily spray paint the bottles beforehand, and then let everyone paint their wine bottles however they like. Then everyone can go home with an upcycled wine bottle vase. So fun!

Supplies Needed to Make These Decorative Wine Bottles
- Empty and clean wine bottles – I prefer this method to remove the labels from glass bottles… It’s too easy!
- Scrap cardboard or surface for spray paint
- White spray paint
- Three different colors of either acrylic craft paint or chalk paint
- Paint brush
Tutorial: Decorative Painted Wine Bottles
Start in a well-ventilated area (outdoors is best) and spray paint the wine bottles white. Start with a thin layer. Let dry. Then repeat 2-3 times, changing your angle frequently, until the bottles are completely covered. Let the spray paint dry.
Grab your colored paint. Feel free to choose whatever colors you like, or ones that work with your home decor, since these painted bottles make nice vases for fresh flowers.
Paint each bottle. Start at with the neck of the bottle, painting around the top. Then add vertical brush strokes around the neck.
Then paint the base of the bottle. Paint with horizontal strokes around the base of the bottle, then add vertical strokes as high up the side of the bottle as you like.
Let the paint dry completely. Then add another light layer of paint for best coverage.
Repeat with two more bottles.
I made this upcycled craft using wine bottles, but I think it would look fantastic using any other glass bottle that you pull out of your recycling bin. Do you have coastal themed decor and crafts? Then I think you’ll love these Sea Glass Lanterns made from Old Jars and these Nautical Stripe Chalk Painted Jars.
