This year, I decided to decorate our Christmas tree entirely with dollar store Christmas decorations. I thought it would be a fun challenge for myself. It may not have gone as planned, but I was still pretty happy with the result.
I’m going to be really honest with you all here. Despite lots of pretty pictures and my mission to make things creative, uncomplicated, and budget-friendly, my life can sometimes look like a total disaster. Example: my shopping trip to decorate this tree. It was around 8pm, but it felt like midnight. I had already hit my wall 2 errands ago. My brain had stopped all non-essential functioning, and I was basically a walking zombie. This would not be the time I recommend making creative decisions – like picking out Christmas decorations. But I did it anyway. Thank goodness it turned out all right.
I spent less than $20 on my dollar store purchases. Let’s take a quick look at how I put everything together:
Base Layer: Tree Skirt and Garland
Burlap is my best friend when decorating my Christmas tree. For practically nothing, I can whip up a tree skirt and garland. I simply wrapped the base of my tree and filled with fiberfill. Then I cut strips of burlap for my garland.
Add Flowers and Berries
I added sprigs of flowers and berries throughout the tree.
Final Layer: Ornaments
Then, I filled in with ornaments. Too simple!
DIY Dollar Store Christmas Art
Next up: some simple DIY Christmas art for my mantel. I started with this dollar store gift bag:
I swapped out the contents of another frame (just for the season) and had instant Christmas art!
